Sculpture To Painting

I have been continuing my exploration of multiple exposure photography. Some of the docents at the museum now know me. I have spoken with them, and they recognize that I am not someone who is there taking photos of the artwork to prove that I have seen it, but rather, am trying to create new artwork. They may well think the practice is a bit unusual, but that’s another story. As a caveat, I do have some neighborhood photo walks planned to try to make multiple exposure artwork outside the museum, too.

This originated from a large three-dimensional sculpture. I made multiple exposures, photographing various portions and sides of it using in-camera blending modes and changing the white balance between shots. The finished work (after a bit of tweaking in Photoshop) looks more like a modern art painting than a sculpture to me.

One thing I have been thinking of doing but haven’t had the chance to try yet is taking an image like this, layering different images on top of it, and using blend modes in Photoshop to produce a series of images that are different but that go together.
