Bandon in Fog

The weather in Bandon can get crazy. I was staying in Coos Bay, about 25 minutes from Bandon, and decided to drive over to catch some sunset shots since it was clear and bright with some low scattered clouds in the sky. At least it was that way in Coos Bay, and so I thought that might make for a nice sunset.

However, by the time I got to Bandon, a mere 25 minutes later, there was some scattered fog in the town but, as it turns out, that was not an indicator of what was going on down at the beach. When I went down the 100-200 or so stairs to access the beach (always easier getting down there than getting back up) I found myself in thick fog. I mean so thick that I had to leave quite a bit earlier than I had intended for fear of not being able to find the location of the stairs back up if it started to get dark and I wandered too far.

In processing the images I wanted to try to convey that feel, though I had to use some ‘dehaze’ in processing to actually cut through some of the fog just to see the sea stack. I also wanted to convey a dark and somewhat cold feel to the image, as that’s what it was like down there while taking photos.
