Returning To The Sea

This is another view of the ‘Whales Head’ sea stack (for which the beach is named) at Whaleshead Beach in Oregon. I was attracted to the patterns that the receding surf was making in the sand, so I photographed at varying shutter speeds to get different effects in the water. It was not only the shutter speed, but also the amount of water in each wave that determined the effect. Of all the shots I took, I like this one (taken at 0.6 seconds) the best. I had to keep my fingers crossed that the motion of the water didn’t move the tripod or make it sink too much further into the sand.
